Health Plans Help Reduce Medicare Part D Confusion using Silverlink Automated Calls for Communication

December 13, 2005

Silverlink Reports Increased Demand for its Communications Suite

Burlington, Mass. - Silverlink Communications, the leading provider of automated voice solutions for the healthcare industry, announced today increased demand for its MPD Communications Suite from health plans. WellPoint, Inc. and Oxford Health Plans, LLC, a UnitedHealthcare Company, are among the many managed care companies currently deploying Silverlink calls as part of their Part D communications strategies.

"With the introduction of Part D, our traditional methods of communicating benefit changes didn’t seem like enough,"said Marc Russo, Regional Vice President of Government Programs at Oxford Health Plans, "so we chose to leverage Silverlink as an additional communication tactic. The opportunity to reach our audience with concise messaging around Medicare’s new drug benefit was extremely helpful and additive, and we were very pleased with the process."

"Clearly, one of the biggest challenges health plans have in rolling out Medicare Part D is effective communication with beneficiaries"said Stan Nowak, CEO and President of Silverlink, "We’re all reading a lot about the confusion many potential beneficiaries and their families are feeling about this program. We are pleased that our customers are using Silverlink services to help alleviate some of that confusion. We’re helping plans send personalized calls that deliver Part D information in a clear and understandable way. That’s good for the beneficiary because they feel better about selecting a plan and it’s good for the plan because they reduce the number of inbound calls their call centers have to manage.Ultimately they enroll more beneficiaries."

Nowak explains why Silverlink calls are an effective component of a Part D communications strategy, "This is a vehicle that allows plans to deliver the right information, at the right time, in digestible increments. It also allows them to collect information in a matter of days rather than weeks. You send a letter and you have no idea if the recipient will read it - often times they don’t. You’re left waiting for them to respond. Our customers are able to be proactive. And the results have been extremely impressive - seniors respond better to automated calls than any other age group. We’ve seen MPD programs achieve success rates of 75 percent. In a situation like Medicare Part D, where you need to reach a large number of people on a time sensitive basis, when you need to be able to exchange critical information, and it needs to be cost effective, automated calls are simply the best option."

Silverlink has been working with its customers for over a year to help develop Part D communications strategies. Some customers began making educational calls to potential customers long before the October 1st marketing ‘starting gun’ went off, but the company reports that demand for its MPD Communications Suite has increased dramatically in the last two months as plans have started marketing to eligible beneficiaries and managing the enrollment process.

In its MPD Communications Suite, Silverlink has developed call program solutions to meet over 20 Part D communications needs associated with marketing, enrollment, service delivery and claims and administration.
