September 22, 2004

100% of survey group says more personalized interactive communication with patients leads to improved healthcare outcomes

Disease Management Congress - Boston, MA - A survey conducted at the Disease Management Congress in Boston this week showed that 52 percent of the healthcare professionals and executives surveyed believe that "changing the behavior of consumers to stay healthier" will have "the biggest impact on reducing the growth of healthcare services and costs in the next five years."

Silverlink Communications, the leader in personalized voice solutions for client communication, conducted the poll. Respondents included representatives from managed care organizations (44%), disease management companies (18.6%), healthcare providers, (9.3%) pharmacy benefits managers (2.4%) and "other" healthcare representatives (25.7%).

Other Results:

  • 100% said more personalized interactive contact with patient members leads to improvement of health outcomes
  • 39% said their highest priority for communicating with their healthcare populations is disease-specific education, and 19% cited condition monitoring and compliance support
  • 25% said measuring program outcomes is one of their top three business challenges for disease management; 22% cited patient compliance; 17% cited substantiated ROI

Stan Nowak, CEO of Silverlink Communications, said, "The biggest controllable variable in healthcare costs is member behavior. By providing the right information to the member at the right time, companies can improve their ability to deliver favorable outcomes. Feedback from this conference reinforces the message we are getting from our customers, who collectively manage over 90 million lives. Healthcare companies that take steps to effectively reach out to their members on a regular basis can materially lower utilization and reduce costs."
