Healthcare Leaders Convene In Boston To Discuss How Effective Communications Can Dramatically Lower Healthcare Costs

May 25, 2010

National Healthcare Experts Dr. Mark B. McClellan, Dr. David Wennberg, and Don Kemper Deliver Keynotes at Silverlink’s Annual Healthcare Communications Conference

RESULTS2010 Showcases Innovation in Engaging and Motivating Today’s Healthcare Consumer

Boston, MA - The most powerful force in healthcare – the consumer – takes center stage at RESULTS2010, Silverlink’s annual healthcare communications conference in Boston, May 25th and 26th, where leading experts will share their vision of the future of healthcare.

Keynote speaker Mark B. McClellan, MD, PhD, director of the Engelberg Center for Health Care Reform at the Brookings Institution, will open the meeting with an examination of healthcare reform and the opportunities created for health plans and consumers. “The call from Washington on healthcare has been to improve quality and lower costs. There is a huge opportunity for health plans to effectively and efficiently drive consumer behaviors to positively impact the quality and cost issues,” McClellan said.

McClellan is joined by speakers David Wennberg, MD, MPH, Chief Science & Products Officer of Health Dialog; Don Kemper, MPH, Chairman and CEO of Healthwise; Jack Mahoney, MD, MPH, Medical Director of Florida Health Care Coalition and Strategies Healthcare Planning Consultant for Pitney Bowes; Janice Young, Payer IT Strategies Program Director at IDC Health Insights and Sundiatu Dixon-Fyle, PhD, Healthcare Analyst at McKinsey & Company. The event is hosted by Silverlink Communications CEO and Co-Founder, Stan Nowak.

More than 150 healthcare executives from the leading health plans, population health companies and Pharmacy Benefit Management companies will attend the two-day summit to collaborate on innovative ways to control healthcare costs, improve health outcomes and deliver more value to consumers to drive loyalty. The agenda highlights healthcare reform leaders, consumer experts, behavioral economists, Chief Medical Officers and more than 20 nationally recognized experts – all sharing best practices and outcomes for effective behavior change. Sessions will focus on the strategic use of communications to unlock the value of consumers and empower individuals to take on greater responsibility for their health.

“While the focus of healthcare reform has been on access to health insurance, the industry leaders here understand that the healthcare cost problem is driven by individual behaviors,” said Nowak. “By using communications strategically, we can motivate individuals in meaningful and measurable ways to dramatically improve health outcomes.”

The summit will feature collaborative breakout sessions that showcase innovative case studies in four key areas:

  • Managed Care session topics include the recently enacted Patient Protection & Affordable Care Act (PPACA) and the immediate and substantial opportunities to engage healthcare consumers.
  • Population Health session topics include clinical outcomes in hypertension, post hospital discharge, ethnic disparities outreach, and other HEDIS programs.
  • Pharmacy session topics include pharmacogenomics, macroeconomic shifts in power in the pharmacy industry, and medication adherence.
  • Medicare session topics include go-to-market strategies for the 2011 marketing and sales season, improving quality and performance, driving star ratings and how reform will impact Medicare.

About Silverlink

At Silverlink, we get that health and healthcare costs – which are enormous, in both size and significance – are actually the sum of millions of individual decisions. When one person decides to smoke, another gets a cancer screening, a third abandons diabetes medication – these are the individual behaviors that taken together make up the state of our nation’s health and the costs associated with it. That is why, when Silverlink set out to transform healthcare, we went right to the individual. Our entire focus, our mission, and our method are about helping move individual people in small, healthier ways – the cumulative effect of which can save millions of lives and billions of dollars.
